Established by Ann Gander in 1998 to publish her own local history book, that project was so successful that a reprint was necessary and that sold out too. Using that experience she published her next book, a biography, and began to help other local authors to get their work into print.
In 2003 Holm Oak Publishing produced a Romany dictionary for author James Hayward, which was nominated for a prestigious reference book award, up against some of the biggest names in the business. This reflects the quality of production, which shows not only in the attention to detail in the layout, design and content, but also only the best litho printers are used. However, there is scope for digital printing as a lower price and we can obtain quotes on request.
The decision was taken not to take on ‘vanity’ projects, ie work that is unlikely to recover its costs, although private publications of family history or personal memoirs are welcomed.
We believe that everyone has ‘a book in them’ – we are happy to help local writers to see their work in print.
